R2- 43 Review
As of this stage, we feel that this is enough posts.
A detailed shot-list is missing, although the storyboard is very detailed.
The idea is good; the idea of a story told in a boy's unconscious is an interesting one and one we feel that a young child could 'get into'.
The genre is quite clear. We assume that this will be an adventure/fantasy story.
We feel that what is written is appropriate for an opening sequence. Perhaps, however, slightly too much goes on for two minutes' worth of film.
This could easily be shot in college; there are ditches and doors, which are the only two features referenced.
The analysis is very detailed. The choice of film to analyse, Monster's Inc., as a good one. This is because a lot goes on in the first 120 seconds of Monsters Inc.
In the analysis, the reference of how important doors are in the rest of the film is a particularly interesting point.
The storyboard is varied and clear enough. Perhaps it could be beneficial to do a bit less in the time frame. However, it is clear that the group knows what they are doing. The storyboard is clear.
Photo Descriptions Of Opening Sequence. James.Adam,Ruth.Tom.
The first photo is a picture of the first scene to our opening sequence. It is a long, wide shot which gives the effect of what the surrounding environment is.
The second photo in our opening scene is a picture of the child on the floor in a day dream, Which leads to the next photo of a close up of the child, where there are a set of keys hanging out of his pocket. (doesn't yet know about, still in dream).
Our next photo is of a long shot of the forest where the child gets back on his bike and carries on his bike ride. This is the next scene in our opening sequence, This leads to where the child sees a man standing by a gateway.
The next picture is of the man and child speaking about the gateway and the keys in the child's pocket. Which is a mid-wide shot, as this shot includes two characters, setting and gateway. The man points out to the young boy about the keys as the child doesn't realise they are there.
This is the end of our opening two minute sequence.
Story Board - what they are showing and why ....
Working from the bottom of the page to the top, we open with someone holding a sheet that tells the viewer the name of our production and the people within our film. The second shot shows a young boy riding his bike, the small diagram of a ‘music note’ will be put in when editing our piece. We wanted to incorporate a childlike element so by adding drawings of music notes we felt this would help – the idea came from ‘ The story of Tracy beaker’ a popular children’s t.v programme.
Next we have a shot of the boy on the fall, with his bike next to him, telling the audience that he has fallen off and is currently unconscious. The next shot is a zoom up/ crash zoom of the face of the child… this is followed by a point of view shot.
We have a shot of the little boy next to a gate, with a man holding a key in our next shot which leads back to a point of view shot – showing the boy coming out of his dream….
Shot 11 and 12 are showing the boy waking up from his daze after his fall. He realises that he has a key in his pocket and goes on a quest to find where the key leads him…Shot 13 shows him biking around, frame14 shows the viewer that he has found the gate and shot 15 shows his flashbacks’ ….the image of him standing next to the gate with the man.
The last couple of drawings show him walking up to the gate, wondering where it will lead to , then the camera stop just as he opens the door.

Analysis of childs sequences (Monsters Inc)
In the opening credits of 'Monsters Inc', it shows firstly the companies credits 'Walt Disney Pixar'. This shows who are the producers of the film are. Also there are many doors in the opening part- with monsters going through them which represents the story board of the film. It represents the childhood fear of something hidden behind a closed door. In addition, the film instantly shows that it's a children's film by the use of colours and animation. The first scene is where a child is being put into bed by his parents when a monster come out from within the closet.
From watching this first sequence we can tell that Monsters inc is a comedy, animated adventure film that was directed by Pete Doctor.
